Statement by Tajik Youth for the Revival of Tajikistan (TYRT)
November 26, 2014, remains one of the most painful and unforgettable dates in the history of Tajik Youth for the Revival of Tajikistan. On that night, Maksud Ibrohimov, the organization’s leader, was brutally attacked outside his residence in Moscow. The assault, which could have ended in tragedy, marked the beginning of further hardships in his life.
According to information from Russian law enforcement authorities, the attackers initially attempted to shoot him, but the weapon failed to fire. They then stabbed him several times. Maksud collapsed in critical condition, bleeding heavily. After an extensive search, those looking for him managed to establish which hospital he had been taken to. Weeks of intensive treatment and a struggle for survival followed. He survived, but the physical and psychological consequences of that night remained with him for a long time.
Unfortunately, the tragedy did not end there. On January 20, 2015, Maksud Ibrohimov suddenly disappeared. After four days of uncertainty and anguish, it became known that he had been secretly transferred to Tajikistan. On July 24, 2015, he was sentenced to 17 years and six months in prison.
Years later, the memory of that night and Maksud’s fate remain deeply painful for our organization. We do not regard this incident merely as a page in history, but as a reminder of the importance of protecting human life, freedom of expression, and every person’s right to security.
Tajik Youth for the Revival of Tajikistan condemns all forms of violence and emphasizes that political disagreements must never be resolved through attacks on human life. No one should face persecution or violence because of their beliefs or political views.
We call on international human rights organizations to pay close attention to the fate of Maksud Ibrohimov and to the rights of people deprived of their liberty.
For us, November 26 is a day of pain, courage, and hope. We believe that events such as these must never be forgotten, and that the pursuit of justice, respect for human rights, and a free future for Tajikistan must continue.
We pray that God grants Maksud Ibrohimov patience, strength, and freedom soon.
Maksud Ibrohimov is not forgotten. Truth and justice are values that must never be silenced.
