Legal Ban on Hijab-Wearing Women Entering Public and Private Offices

Tajikistan is planning to introduce a law that would legally prohibit hijab-wearing women from entering government offices, ministries, and even private institutions. To this end, a special working group has been established under the National Legislative Center.

This initiative marks the first formal attempt to legally restrict the wearing of headscarves and hijabs in the country. Proponents of the measure argue that it aims to preserve national values and prevent the influence of foreign cultural practices. However, human rights advocates consider such restrictions a blatant violation of women’s rights to freedom of dress and freedom of religion.

The proposal has sparked widespread debate within Tajik society. Some argue that such legislation could exacerbate social tensions and further limit the fundamental rights of citizens. Human rights defenders are urging the government to prioritize respect for individual freedoms and religious liberties when adopting such laws.

Currently, the draft law is under discussion, and debates surrounding it continue to unfold.

It looks like an article.
