The Establishment of the Tajik Youth for the Revival of Tajikistan (TYRT) and its Role in Legal and Political Struggles

The Tajik Youth for the Revival of Tajikistan (TYRT) was founded on July 17, 2014, in Moscow, initiated by Kharomat Sharipov with the support of Umarali Quvatov. The first founding meeting was held at the office of Kharomat Sharipov, the leader of the public organization “Labor Migrants” in Russia. During this significant meeting, Maksud Ibrahimov was elected as the group’s leader, Ubaidullo Nosirov as the first deputy, and Nasimjon Sharipov as the second deputy. With the assistance of the renowned Russian lawyer Nikolai Nikolaevich, a request was submitted to the Russian government for the official recognition of the organization.

The primary goal of TYRT was to protect and support the rights and interests of approximately two million Tajik migrant workers in Russia. The organization sought to investigate the reasons behind the increasing labor migration from Tajikistan, to challenge the regime of Emomali Rahmon, and to work towards the creation of a prosperous society free from the exploitation of Tajikistan’s human resources.

In October 2014, the leadership of the organization submitted a formal request to the Ministry of Justice of Russia for official registration, but the request was denied. The likely reason for the rejection was the pressure from the Tajik government, which was concerned about the growing influence of the group.

After the arrest and extradition of Maksud Ibrahimov to Tajikistan, where he was sentenced to 17 years in prison, the internal situation of the organization faced serious challenges. During this difficult period, the organization began cooperating with the “Constructive Forces of the Assembly.” On April 24, 2015, with the intervention of the Assembly’s Council, Maruf Langarchiev was elected as the new leader of TYRT. However, this decision was rejected just hours later by Ubaidullo Nosirov, the first deputy of Maksud Ibrahimov, who described it as interference in the internal affairs of the group.

Despite internal disagreements, on January 31, 2016, TYRT officially separated from the “Assembly of Constructive Forces of Tajikistan” and continued its activities under the umbrella of the political movement “Group 24.” This cooperation opened up new opportunities for the organization to expand its political efforts both domestically and internationally. Now, under the leadership of Ubaidullo Saidi, the “Tajik Youth for the Revival of Tajikistan” continues its activities on social media, including on Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, which serve as the main sources for disseminating the organization’s materials.

In 2016, representatives of TYRT participated in a conference organized by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). In this international forum, they addressed human rights issues and the problems faced by Tajik migrants under the current political system of Tajikistan. In the following years, TYRT actively participated in conferences and other international events, expanding its political agenda and strengthening its efforts for reform and justice.

In recent years, the “Tajik Youth for the Revival of Tajikistan” (TYRT), by implementing its programs, has expanded its activities not only in Russia but also in other countries. Through partnerships with international organizations, the group has sought to draw global attention to the issues in Tajikistan, particularly regarding human rights and the situation of migrants. The organization also works through campaigns and online events to mobilize youth and political activists in a coordinated effort for reforms and justice in Tajikistan.

Despite political pressures and internal threats, the “Tajik Youth for the Revival of Tajikistan” continues its impactful and scrutinized actions both at home and abroad. Its information and legal programs, focusing on migrant rights and immigration laws in host countries, remain among its primary concerns.

Furthermore, despite challenging circumstances, the organization strives to enhance political awareness, increase youth engagement and access to information, and promote active participation. Its ultimate goal is not only to raise global awareness about the situation in Tajikistan and to help steer the country away from its dire and neglected fate—resulting from the exploitation of its human and ecological resources—but also to foster public awareness, strengthen national consciousness, defend the rights of migrants, and contribute to the creation of a progressive and prosperous Tajikistan.

It should be noted that the “Youth Organization,” in collaboration with the “Group 24,” continues its struggle under a unified banner; however, official statements from the Youth Organization are only published through these platforms. The councils of these two organizations remain separate and do not interfere in each other’s decisions.
